Redeeming Pain

Pain and suffering are some of the greatest challenges of human life. In Acts 7:54–8:1, we witness the martyrdom of Stephen — a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit — who suffers not with bitterness, but with grace, courage and forgiveness. As stones fall around him, Stephen sees heaven opened and Jesus standing to welcome him home. Remarkably, his suffering becomes the spark that spreads the gospel beyond Jerusalem and eventually leads to the conversion of Saul, the future apostle Paul.
