Baptism

For many people, baptism may not seem like a big deal and maybe that’s why so many people have not been baptized. But it is a big deal to God and it was to the early church.

Baptism was an unmistakable act that marked a person as a follower of Jesus Christ. As Jesus died and was buried in the tomb, so too, Christians are plunged beneath the water. When Jesus was raised from the dead, as Christians come up and out of the water, it signifies a new life in Jesus Christ. We are dead in our sins and alive with Christ. While baptism does not save us, it does show the world the work of Christ in our lives. We like to say, it’s the first act of obedience. In Matthew 28:20 Jesus said, “All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”
