Encountering Jesus

March 16 - 17 • Ian Trigg

I believe it was Voltaire who first said: "In the beginning God created man in His own image, and man has been trying to repay the favour ever since." Despite the cynicism that likely caused him to write such a line, he is not as far from truth as many judge him to be. We easily create an image or understanding of God based more on our personal experiences, desires or phobias more than on who the Scriptures reveal Him to be. Our series on Encounters with Jesus from John's gospel is opening our hearts and minds to the truth of who Jesus is and why He came.

This weekend, we'll enter into the story of Mary of Bethany, when she anointed Jesus' feet with very expensive perfume. We'll consider her understanding of Jesus and contrast it with others (like Judas and the religious elite). Perhaps we'll see a little bit of ourselves, a lot more of Jesus and, even better, discover just who He longs to be in our stories. Have a great weekend - I look forward to being in worship with you!
