What Child is This?

What Child is This?

For Unto Us

December 24 • Ian Trigg

It’s Christmas Eve! And, consistently with all things 2020 ... it’s a Christmas Eve like no other! Like you, we’ve had to grieve the impact of restrictions upon our plans for celebrating. But, we’ve chosen to be on the solution side! Gifts will be dropped off today and we’ll wave to our grandkids through the window. We will meet on Zoom over the next few days. I’ll be allowed to visit my Mom for a few minutes tomorrow to help her Zoom with my Dad. They live 100 yards apart from each other and haven’t seen one another in four months. Such is the reality of a COVID Christmas!

But while so much changes - more remains the same. We will gather around the TV and join in our Christmas Eve services some time today. The service will be available any time after noon today, (Look below for details). It really will be a great service for your whole family.

Tomorrow morning, my family will read the Christmas story from Luke 2 together. When Jesus is born, each child will run to one of our manger displays and place Jesus in the manger! And we’ll pray before any gift is unwrapped to thank the Father for the greatest gift of all.

Whatever your traditions look like, may your hearts be captured by the simple truth of Christmas: God became one of us so that he may redeem us! He stepped into our world, so that we might know the way to Heaven one day. Also, so that we might know the truth of “Immanuel." It’s why we sing “Joy to the World” and “O Come Let Us Adore Him!”

We'll also gather online for Church on Sunday. I'lI get to teach one of the greatest passages of the Bible, which I’ve sadly never taught here before: 2 Peter 1:1-11. Here, we will discover that God is more than enough for whatever we face in life!

Have a blessed Christmas, and may the sweet peace of Jesus overwhelm you all once again!

Be blessed. Be safe. Be grateful. Be amazed!
